Yacht rock (originally known as the West Coast sound or adult-oriented rock is a broad music style and aesthetic commonly associated with soft rock, one of the most commercially successful genres from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Drawing on sources such as smooth soul, smooth jazz, R&B, and disco,common stylistic traits include high-quality production, clean vocals, and a focus on light, catchy melodies.The term yacht rock was coined in 2005 by the makers of the online video series Yacht Rock, who connected the music with the popular Southern Californian leisure activity of boating. It was considered a pejorative term by some music critics.Prominent artists that have been labeled "yacht rock" include Christopher Cross, the Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Rupert Holmes, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Toto, and Supertramp. PAX of F3 Cape Fear’s Thursday Thunder Workout were not fans of the Yacht Rock playlist provided by the Q.

The Goat April 27, 2024, Meet at 7:00 a.m. at Long Leaf Park. Meet early at 6:15 a.m. at Ogden Park to carpool to LLP.

Washed Up—I don't know how you rebounded from getting dressed as Boy George at that age, but you did. Impressive!

Steak Knives - I can't see you as Boy George, George Michael maybe, but not Boy George

Tiny Dancer - You're a Kenny Rodgers guy with that beard

Fetish - You just made the top ten list for F3 names. Congratulations!

Salty - It's not a bad name, but it's just not as impressive as Fetish, Meat, or Moist.

Napa - I appreciate the callout for that first Little Baby Bridge rep. I just let myself get out of timeout.

SOL - Apparently, people vacationing in Costa Rica get better tans than people on Carnival Cruises

Kopi Luwak - So you were named after a coffee?

Pumpkin Pie Chart - We must get a beer in "The Hood" sometime.

COT Prayers for Onset's cousin's family in the wake of several recent deaths. Prayers for listening, patience and presence. Prayers for all who suffer in body or mind. Onset took us out in prayer. Poem of the Post: "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke:

The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.

We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother’s countenance
Could not unfrown itself.

The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed My right ear scraped a buckle.

You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.

AYE!

Started with simple, loose and organic stretching while telling jokes to lighten our hearts for the day ahead. Busted Grill missed his calling as a comedian.

Proceeded to form battle buddy teams of two where we did a jog about the hood, getting to know our battle buddies, and reconvened back to share with the group while pulling off isometrics and side straddle hope until everyone was represented.

A couple of team oriented exercises: as many merkins possible in 3 minutes, tag team style with our battle buddy. Go as hard as you can as long as you can so your battle buddy doesn’t suffer it. Inevitably, we each needed the battle buddy to carry over when we got tired. I asked all the local bugs to come and bite and annoy to try and get us to quit, but nobody did.

Sprints with our battle buddies, running from one side to the other hard enough to empty the gas tank, once again battle buddy picking up the slack when the other was exhausted and continuing for 3 minutes.

Calisthenics in a circle led by yhc: the “never give up” archer merkins for 45 seconds, plus 45 second tabatas of various leg and core exercises: seated in and outs, single leg Romanian dead lifts, and more.

Completed the mind body spirit workout with yhc’s “word salad” game. Looking  deeper into a word’s meaning by finding hidden representations of it, and then applying it to the theme of the day. Want to know the recent word, you just join yhc for a beat down :)

YHC gathered the PAX into a circle, introduced himself, went over the F3 mission and 5 corp principles and then had everyone stretch, head to toe before moving over to the field for 10 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and a game of Let’s Make A Deal.

Thing 1: HIIT

With Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and other classic Alt Rock and Soul blasting in the background. YHC led the PAX through 10 exercises, 40/20 seconds of work/rest. The chorus of grunts and groans weren’t enough to scare off the gazillion Noseeums that returned just in time for great weather to claim the gloom as their home turf.

The PAX swatted and battled hard against them to the end to complete:

Prison Squats Freddie Mercury Flying Nuns Chain Breakers Box Cutters Carolina Dry Docks Slap Jacks (2 Jumping Jacks, 2 Claps between legs) Lil Babies Bobby Hurley

Thing 2: Let’s Make a Deal

YHC next divided the PAX into 3 teams to play 5 rounds of this classic game for prizes and exercises based on the selection of one of three boxes marked 1, 2 or 3.

For each round (RD), the teams had to select one of three options to win a prize or zonk and select the exercise and reps for the PAX to complete. The options were:

(1) Roll a dice with exercise and rep listed; (2) select from 1 of 3 F3 or similar cards with exercise and reps listed; or select a deal (exercise and reps) determined by the Q but unknown to the PAX.

Round 1 Led by Tartan, the team rolled the dice which landed on 30 Abdominal Crunches and won a (toy) Blue Silverado truck

Round 2 Led by Wrist Guard, selected the deal and won a YoYo and 30 seconds of Alternate Shoulder Taps for the PAX.

Round 3 The FNG selected door 1 for his team which was a Zonk. As a result the PAX did 30 seconds of Outlaws, 12 lateral leg raises from the dice and 30 seconds of single leg push ups for each leg. The team also won a can of Sardines to split for their zonk prize.

Round 4

Led by Team 1, Ahoy Mate selected the F3 card and won 20 Monkey Humpers for the PAX and a (toy) Guitar for his team.

Round 5 The Big Deal Team 2 led by Nomad and Team 3 led by Inches Short went head-to-head in a winner take all of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine the Big Deal Winner Inches Short who after selecting three F3 Cards won a 50 Yard Backwards Run, 30 Freddy Mercury and a 10-count Plank Hold done in a circle by all PAX to exhaustion. The Big Deal Prize for Team 2 was a bag of Twix candy bars, a (toy) Pool Table and a (toy) 69 Shelby Mustang.

COT:

The PAX offered prayers for Pez’s daughter Heather that she be delivered from the behavioral health challenges she is facing.

Inches Short shared the great news about his mother Mrs.Beverly Hutton for her successful surgery and therapy treatments for Cancer which is now no longer attacking her body.

Inches Short ‘s father Mr. Richard Hutton our FNG today was named Gadget by the PAX, but overruled by the Q who named him “Talk Too Much” based on the FNG saying this about himself during his COT presentation to PAX. The Q had a change of heart and the former FNG’s name will revert to Gadget.

YHC spoke about a cousin who after a lifetime of drug abuse and rehab, recently was found dead of an overdose, leaving behind two teenage daughters to be raised by his cousin’s mother. YHC also asked for prayers for his only surviving uncle who at age 91 has entered Hospice Care as he makes his final transition.

YHC also thanked the PAX for allowing him to Q one more time before undergoing his third major back surgery next week and asked for their continued prayers for healing and a speedy recovery.

Honor to serve and be among these HIMs.
